Two Man Race?

We are two and a half days through the Master’s Tournament and if you take a glance at the leaderboard you would think it is a two man race between Brooks Koepka at -13 and John Rahm at -9. But is it?
There is no doubt that these two are playing the best golf in the field this week. Brooks has been unbelievable all tournament, shooting a 65 on Thursday and a 67 on Friday, racking up eleven birdies, one eagle, and only one bogey through 36 holes. John Rahm had a double bogey on his first hole of the tournament, and just when we thought he might lay an egg for once and prove to be human, he turned the double bogey into a first round 65 and fired a 69 yesterday. The two started their third round together today alongside Francis Ouimet, I mean Sam Bennett, but they only got through six holes because Augusta, Georgia is currently 10 feet below sea level and you can’t play golf underwater.

This afternoon when they blew the horn and suspended play for the day, I decided I would create a world in my mind where it will be more than a two man race this Easter Sunday to keep things interesting. Here are our potential Sunday sweethearts:
Only two men really impressed me with their play during the monsoon today. Patrick Cantlay being one of them. Cantlay sits at -5 and -3 through 13 holes of his third round. If he can get his total to 7 or 8 under par before he tees it off Sunday, he can certainly make some noise and have Rahm and Jena Sims’ husband shaking in their boots. The other is Matthew Fitzpatrick, who is also at -5 and we will give him the same goal to reach for before finishing his final round. He is only through 11 holes and will be starting tomorrow on the par 3, 12th hole, a hole he has birdied both times he has played this week. Both these gentlemen have hot putters and are dialed in off the tee. Don’t count them out.
Also, Mr. Koepka is only used to playing 54 holes at a time since he joined LIV, so there is a chance he is a no show for the last round. Somebody tell Brooks he will indeed have another tee time after finishing his 54th hole.
Things will certainly get interesting tomorrow. Whether it's at your family’s Easter Brunch or at Augusta I'm not sure, only time will tell.
