What. A. Matchup. The combination of coaching personalities, star power, and smack talk ability in this game makes for must watch TV. Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes take on Angel Reese and the LSU Tigers at 3:30 on ABC today, and if you aren’t watching this game I feel very sorry for you.

You guys know how big of a fan I am of Caitlin Clark, I have been talking about her on the podcast for a while now, I picked Iowa to win my bracket solely because of her skill, and I have asked her to come on the podcast a handful of times (I am yet to hear back 🙂). The tournament she is having is one for the record books, but it isn't just her stats that impresses me. She is faster than everyone on the court, feels confident making any pass, can snatch your ankles if you make one false move, moves like Steph Curry without the ball, AND can talk smack with the best of them.
For LSU, Angel Reese, “The Bayou Barbie”, will certainly have something to say (literally and figuratively) to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes before the day is over. Reese is averaging 23.3 PPG, and 15.5 RPG and is an absolute presence on the boards with a tremendous amount of post skills. Look for Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark to get in each other's face at least once this afternoon.
Alongside Reese is a Savannah, Georgia native, and bar spitter, Flau’jae Johnson “Big Fo '' and “Flau'jae'' on Spotify. Big Fo (#4) averages 11 PPG and 6 RPG, but also will be in your earhole on the defensive side. Either her or Alexis Morris (15 PPG, 4 APG, and 2 Steals Per Game) will be tasked with guarding Caitlin Clark later this afternoon. There will be times, I'm sure, where we see both of them on her.
Caitlin Clark will have her way in this game there is no doubt in my mind. If there was a game where she would have been shut down, it was going to be on Friday night against South Carolina. I am not sure what Dawn Staley’s game plan was there but Caitlin Clark got everything she wanted in that game, scoring 41 points, dishing out 8 assists, and grabbing 6 rebounds. She was 15-31 from the floor. The Gamecocks didn't even try to stop her it seemed like.
I expect Kim Mulkey and her team to do a better job containing Clark, maybe double team her or play a box and one, but they won’t stop her that is for sure.
Any guesses on what Kim Mulkey is going to wear this afternoon? My guess is a jacket that looks like she gave Big Bird a haircut and then glued it on her with 10” purple heels.
We are in for a good one folks. I will be rooting for Iowa and the Caitlin Clark show, but I expect a nail-biter.
